About the Program
Sam Rit Residency was borne out of the desire to create a flexible, inclusive and authentic residency program in the North Eastern village of Sam Rit, Thailand. We are the first government approved facility of its kind in the region. The village community is highly supportive of our resident artists with the local school, Buddhist temple, households and farmers happy for visits and participation. Residents have the opportunity to inspire new direction and energy in their work whilst escaping from the daily distractions of home/work/school/academic life.
Sam Rit Residency offers open calls. We welcome all who are interested - including artists of all mediums, arts managers and arts workers, academics of all disciplines, researchers and students. This cultural residency program offers a rare opportunity of total immersion into real rural Thai life with the comfort and convenience of a self-contained residence with shared facilities and a support network in place.
Program Objectives
Sam Rit Residency wishes to encourage residents to experience village life and make a conscious effort to engage with locals through ceremonies, events and daily life interactions. Residents wishing to have a public outcome of their research or work from their stay are welcome to arrange an event or exhibition with assistance of the Program Director and Coordinator. This is a great contribution to the community.
Length of Stay
residencies are typically 1 to 8 weeks in duration. Longer times can be arranged subject to visa requirements.
